Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic cleaner and mop mop or vacuum that has an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and look better. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some additional cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have number of furniture. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean the area.

The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic hoovers vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
