They also have a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects an abundance of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also quiet and works while you are at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you want to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performing combination vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is perfect for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire home, and it did so with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a decent cleaning job on various rooms and floors with various flooring types including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming it, something we've not seen on other robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxes this robot vacuums with mop vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, best robot hoover a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing some more volume and some extra cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or create an automatic hoover spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
