Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as crit chance and PvE Damage.

For instance, a weapon with the upgrade template that ends in % will take on 3damage to attack each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor in order to give them a stat boost or add a bonus effect. These can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment with a slot for them; the item must be at least upgraded to the blue level to allow a component to be used. Each upgradeable item has a level that determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each level of item requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Certain upgrades require a specific ingredient to activate. This ingredient is obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab of a crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to level the item. Once enough are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When a player improves the equipment they have, the base item will be replaced by an item that is new. The same armor can be transformed into an weapon or shield when upgraded. Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, provided that the player has enough tokens to do this.
