The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention. It leaves your floors spotless. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have tested. They have motors that are top-of-the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they employ intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good value for those whose office or home has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot cleaner with mop vacuum for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. The flex arm is great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, Best Robot Hoover including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our evaluations. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot vacuum cleaner that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it will cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the amount of dirt they are.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have number of furniture. Additionally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots that vacuum and mop we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app also grants access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, however it is more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
