For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. This is something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit which could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty those areas are.

If you own a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Additionally, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or organize an automatic vacuum and mop spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans a specific area.

It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robot vacuum reviews vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
