There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our top option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky units of the rivals. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuum that mops vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the automatic vacuum cleaner and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house depending on how dirty these areas are.

For larger homes it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot vacuum cleaner to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.

It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
