Carbon fibers are heated to increase their tensile strength and modulus of elastic. It can be machined in order to create holes and voids. This reduces the tensile but increases the modulus of elasticity.

It also has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than metal, meaning that it is less likely to change its shape due to exposure to heat. Its properties for fatigue are superior to those of metal therefore, carbon fiber will last longer than metal counterparts.
