The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work, or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to offer better cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the task of cleaning a whole home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job of cleaning a mix of rooms and floors with mixed flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competition. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuum that vacuums and mops vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuums best we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device which could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it's more expensive and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean the area.
