Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. They also have carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors They are also adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good value, especially if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum cleaner and mop robot vacuum for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross contamination. Its flex arm is great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes, this mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our tests. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device which could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it will cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good robot vacuum option. Additionally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana.
