It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky models of the competitors. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robot cleaner with mop vacuum/mop that has 100% in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and a little more cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also mops with only one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app also grants access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
