The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also quiet and can be used while you are at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and an automatic vacuum and mop bin for emptying. It's the best automatic vacuum cleaner robot vacuum for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted area, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be utilized to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the rivals. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's more expensive and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, as well as washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app also provides access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
