Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our first choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and works when you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic cleaner and mop hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted area, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to clean an entire home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different flooring types including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the rivals. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite loud that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient, but it's more expensive and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Also, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot autonomous vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning robot mop and vacuum that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
